There are continuous changes upon earth surface by a variety of natural and anthropological agent’s activities. These agents cut, carry, away and deposit the materials from land surface. River erosion is an endemic and recurrent hazard in Bangladesh and every year, millions of people are affected by erosion that destroys many kinds of resources. Now-a-days Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System widely used for assessment of change in the river caused due to river erosion by using temporal satellite data. This study related to Jamuna River in Sirajgonj which is continuously changing due to geomorphic, climatic and human activities influence in the surrounded region of Present River. This changes identification is the main objective of paper. Water index NDWI is used for the assessment of river change by erosion and accretion for the period of 2000-2016. Integration of RS and GIS was applied for the assessment by using LANDSAT satellite imagery for the year 2000, 2010 and 2016. The result explains the 16 years’ changes in the river bank due to various natural and manmade activities. Due to river erosion and deposition the river channel natural course change which affect the flood plain population, growth centres, infrastructures and other resources.

Soil fertility is important for to supply essential plant nutrients and water in adequate amounts and proportions for plant growth and reproduction. It is characterized by chemical components such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and sulphur which are measured traditionally from soil samples collected from the field. But this process is very time consuming and cumbersome. This study is undertaken to assess the soil fertility by preparing soil fertility map using Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) for Raozan upazilla of Chittagong district of Bangladesh. For this Landsat image is used as data source. Spectral analysis is carried out for selecting the ground truth sites for soil sample collection. Soil samples collected from thirty sites were analyzed for analysis of nutrient composition. Generation of correlogram followed by multiple regressions was done for identifying the most important bands and spectral parameters that can be used for nutrient map generation.

The study of structure of industrial sectors of a region is important to understand the growth and development of a region's economy. The national growth of a sector is a driving factor for progressing of that sector in a region. Shift Share analysis is a standard long run regional analysis technique for assessing the performance of sectors in regional economy. It highlights the performance of a region’s mix of industries and uniqueness of a regional economy. This study seeks to quantify how much of the growth of an industry of a region is attributable to national growth and how much is proliferated by locational factors using Shift Share Components. Employment data of thirteen sectors from “Economic Census-2003 and 2013” report has been analyzed for seven districts of Barisal and Chittagong division. The comparative analysis of the selected districts reveals that Hotel and Restaurant sector is flourishing in all of the districts for both positive influence of external and internal factors while Real Estate and Renting, and Transport, Storage and Communication activities has been lagging for all the districts. All of the districts, except Bhola and Pirojpur would become economically weak in the long run, while Rangamati district is in economic malaise relative to the other districts. Thus, Shift share would be useful for the regional planners to set investment targets by identifying high-performing regional industries.

This working paper summarizes the situational analysis of upstream, mid-stream and downstream areas of Teesta subbasin of greater Brahmaputra basin. The situational analysis contains the condition of the people and ecosystems of the Teesta basin, including a summary of historical trends and stresses and identification of major issues that require attention through regional policies cooperation and action. Teesta river is 414 km long with a total catchment area of 12,159 km2. Teesta basin is home to around 30 million people, 2% in Sikkim, 27% in West Bengal; and 71% in northwest Bangladesh of which 78% are rural and 22% urban. Sikkim is mountainous with very low population density, whereas West Bengal has a mix of low hills and plains, and in Bangladesh the terrain is almost flat. There are two large barrages on Teesta that diverts water for mainly irrigation purpose: one at Gajoldobha in India and the other at Duani in Bangladesh.

Located on the mid-Atlantic ridge, Iceland allows for direct measurement of crustal deformation. Global Positioning System (GPS) data from the Eastern Volcanic Zone (EVZ), Iceland, and crustal deformation of the rift near its southern end at 64°N show a spreading rate of 13.8 ± 1.8 mm yr− 1. About 90% of the deformation occurs in an 80 to 90-km wide zone. To understand how the rheology of the lithosphere influences rifting, we applied a thermo-mechanical stretching model that includes thermal states in Iceland using temperature- and stress-dependent wet and dry olivine rheology. We attempt to reproduce the thermal structure of a rift by defining 700 °C from 5- to 15-km depth at the rift axis that leads to variation in rheological structure, and to estimate the layer (from surface to a depth of 700 °C) where the elastic deformation of the lithosphere is the greatest. At a fixed spreading rate, the deformation field is controlled by the sub-surface thermal state. The vertical subsidence rate at the ridge axis increases almost linearly as the half-velocity increases. The best fitted model suggests a thermal gradient of ~ 54 °C km− 1 at depth below where 700 °C occurs at the ridge axis. The models have little sensitivity to the wet or dry olivine rheology. Estimated viscosity is ~ 1 × 1019 Pa s at 20-km depth at the ridge axis and ~ 1 × 1018 Pa s up to 100-km depth in the model. The spreading rate influences the tangential (non-linearity) shape of the deformation field, and a change in spreading rate affects the deformation field the most. After spreading velocity, the model's second most sensitive parameter is the location of the 700 °C at the rift axis. The thermomechanical model confirms that the rheological responses at the central part of the rift zone in the EVZ, Iceland caused of plate spreading is nonlinear, comparable with surface deformation observed by GPS measurement..
