We assessed the coastal erosion and accretion areas during 1973-2016. River banklines and islands were digitized from Landsat imagery of 1973, 1988, 2000, 2008 and 2016. The results revealed 32 km2y-1 net accretion during last 43 years with high net accretion of 69 and 84 km2y-1 during 1988-2000 and 2008-2016, medium net accretion of 31 km2y-1 during 1973-1988, while a net erosion of 75 km2y-1 during 2000-2008. The high net accretion may be due to large landslides of combined effects of high intensity rainfall and earthquakes in the river basins. Northern part of Bhola island and southern part of Lakshmipur eroded during 1973-1988 which may be attributed to increased river flow during monsoon in the Lower Meghna river. The net accretion in the southern parts of Bhola, Noakhali and Hatiya may be attributed to deposition of sediment when monsoon river water current declines. The erosion of Sandwip, Urirchar, and south-eastern part of Noakhali during 1988-2016 may be occurred due to the reverse flow of seawater through Sandwip channel to the north in deeper seabed. Hatiya and Bhola gained net accretion of 8 and 4.3 km2y-1 respectively. Maheshkhali gained a land of 1 km2y-1 while Kutubdia lost 0.11 km2y-1.

Gentle-breezes, quench weather is always admired by Bangladeshi people because it refreshes human body so there is nothing but riverbank is one of the finest places for recreation. For designing riverbank as a recreational area, the investigation results indicate the Padma riverbank area because Padma is the largest river in Bangladesh, situated in Rajshahi City, is very resourceful, but yet not utilized properly, remains unplanned. Examination of recent landscape architecture, the river bank can be made attractive, a place for recreation, ensure public safety of the river bank with an aesthetic look, which will reduce the hazarded pressure of human. The main objective of the study is to make the riverbank safe, aesthetic and functional through a viable landscape design. Designing the site, at first a reconnaissance survey was held by the survey team. The topographic condition, soil characteristics, weathering condition, existing condition, public access etc. are considered during this survey. In addition, secondary data has been used from various articles through internet browsing. Analyzing the various determinant factors of the site, feedback from the inhabitants of the area, a proper guideline was determined on the basis of their demand. For multipurpose uses of this place, different types of equipment are arranged in the landscape design. The planning sketch demonstrating that the study area size is around 3.1 kilometers. This project offers a place where people of every age will find their needs in the term of recreation also increase the economic growth and will also articulate the river in urban space. As Bangladesh is land of rivers so this project initiative will expand and encourage developing other riverbanks.

In rainy season's landslide is a common phenomenon in the mountainous regions worldwide. However, the landslide is also responsible for damage of housing, roads, farmlands, human lives and so on. On 13th June 2017, a major landslide was occurred in the Rangamati hill district and its surrounding areas, Bangladesh and caused death of more than 120 human lives and displaced more than 3000 people, killed animals, destroyed roads, bridges, farmlands and houses. This study will try to identify the causes of landslides in this region and provide some solutions to mitigate these kinds of landslides. From physical survey, primary and secondary data it has been found that severe intense rainfall, deforestation, hill cutting for infrastructure development, unplanned development and change of land use have caused these landslides. The paper concludes with some broad suggestions on adaptation strategies of people as well as suggestions for policy interventions to reduce landslide hazard vulnerabilities for South East Asia.
